For decades, tourism has experienced continuous intensification, becoming an integral part of our Western lifestyle. It has brought value creation, prosperity, and cosmopolitanism to even the most remote areas, successfully preventing rural depopulation. This is the bright side of tourism. On the flip side, however, lie the darker effects: overwhelming crowds, severe environmental impacts and skyrocketing land prices.
The graphic design for the exhibition “Über Tourismus” (“Toourism”), held at the Architekturzentrum Wien aims to capture these stark contradictions, building a visual tension that oscillates between crowded sensory overload and absolute emptiness.
